2008 Program Schedule:
It’s never too early to plan a trip to Tuscany, so we want you to know as early as possible what we have planned for 2008. Mark your calendars and come join us!
A Tuscan Painting Journey with Susan Tobey White, an artist and art educator. Susan is a painter and sculptor whose teaching transcends technique and theory to individual vision and involvement. Country villas, enchanting hilltowns, and the jewel city of Lucca all invite interpretation from artists, as well as small vignettes, nooks and crannies, and the faces of local Italians. Includes cooking lessons, excursions to wineries and olive presses, and painting in both grand and small gardens.
Date: April 26 - May 3
Wonder Walks in Tuscany. Brett Poirier and Wonder Walks take you to the wondrous mountains of Tuscany, amid valley streams, marble cliffs and views of the central ridges of Italy to the east and to the west the Mediterranean Sea. Brett has been guiding outdoor tours for thirty years throughout the world – and now he invites fellow enthusiasts to join him on an exploration of parts of Tuscany unseen by all but a few tourists. You will connect with the natural world of ancient Italy – as well as the human history of Tuscany and the people who live there now. In addition to long walks in unspoiled mountain areas, you will enjoy the flavors of Tuscany, including wine tastings, a cooking lesson, cheese tasting, Puccini music in a Romanesque setting, a cultural tour of Lucca and its famous walls, and roam through olive groves and vineyards. Date: May 3 - 10
Painting in Tuscany with Sandra Kaplan. Sandra is a long-time and much favored instructor at the Art Students League in Denver, CO, with classes in Acrylic Painting and Creative Expression through Painting, Drawing, and Mixed Media. Her favorite subjects – flowers, clouds and weather patterns, exhibit a new dimension in Tuscany, with its mystical valleys, spring ‘gloriousity’ of flowers, and gorgeous gardens. Her ten-day course concentrates on Lucca and its countryside, and includes gardens and villas, rustic wineries and olive mills, unrestored ruins, majestic cypress trees, Renaissance walls and Medieval town centers, plus two evening cooking classes. Date: May 17-27
Judy Nakari’s Tuscany: Studies in Watercolor. Judy returns to Tuscany for her fifth workshop with Abbondanza Toscana. She’s an expert at mining the picturesque wealth and artistic treasures of Tuscany for painterly venues. Her approach is relaxed and spontaneous, and her teaching style is non-intrusive, honoring indificual style while offering assistance with technical challenges. Her ten-day Autumn workshop focuses on fall foliage, the harvest, the jewel city of Lucca, and charming hilltowns dripping with balcony gardens. There will also be two evenings of kitchen artistry and, this year, a return to Florence for three days to explore the smaller museums that house treasures most people never see and to capture in painting the exquisite Renaissance gardens.
